fostimon and merional OR gonal f and menopur- will ARGC allow to change?

Hello
Just starting my 4th IVF at the ARGC.  For my other 3 cycles I had been prescribed menopur and the last cycle gonal f.  With shopping around I have found the cheapest places to buy these.  I understand ARGC, use fostimon and merional, which going by there price list is much more expensive. What I have read is that Fostimon is the same as Gonal F and Merional is the same as menopur.  I asked if they will write me a private prescription, which I have just recieved, but it is for fostimon and merional.  Has anyone got them to change the precription? or will the pharmacys for example give you menopur instead of merional as it is exactly the same drug?  We're already spending a fortune at ARGC, you'd think that they at least we could get drugs cheaper?
Thanks Tannie

maybe ask Maz on the pharmacy thread if there are differences- I sent my prescriptions to ALi in Fazeley pharmacy and he delivers before 1300 the next day and saved on puregon and cetrotide, I think I also got my merional from him.  I have not used fostimon.

Good luck

Hi Mungo
I asked ARGc if I could use Puregon instead of Fostimon (i liked the gadget pen!) and was told no!
The nurses checked with Mr T but he specifically prescribed Fostimon. I think the price differences are due to manufacturing processes - Fosti is 'naturally' derived and i think gonal-f is synthetic - or something like that!
No harm in asking them though.
Best of luck

I asked them the same thing, as I have leftover menopur from a previous cycle. They said no.

I'm desparate, so I didnt want to question them.

I wish there were meetup friends groups where people could just donate their leftover drugs to women who needed it. Ah well...

But if you want to save money, I highly recommend Ali's Chemist (also known as Rigcharm) on Watney st near Shadwell DLR.  Very nice pharmacist (Yasa, but fertility women call him Ali). Half the price of ARGC!  You can give him the prescription, and just get what you need gradually. Just call the day before to make sure he's got what you may need.

Hello
Thanks for your replies. Mangoeater- I've spoken to Nikki at ARGC today and told her that I know Fostimon is different to Gonal F (Fostimon made from menopausal women's urine-lovely and Gonal F, I think it was from the ovaries of mice, something like that).  But merional and menopur are exactly the same; Mr Gafur has already sent me a prescription, I asked them to do it in advance as I wanted to shop around.  Today I said to Nikki that I wanted the prescription rewritten and for them to put menopur on instead.  She said that would be fine. If I were you I phone again.  You have to be quite insistant.
Good Luck, Regards Tannie

Hi I agree with Mungo. I had leftover Menopur during my last cycle so was very reluctant to fork out for Merional, especially as Merional stings like Merry Hell! ;D

They agreed to let me use up my Menopur although when I ran out, the new prescriptions were for Merional but I didn't have the energy to argue the toss by then! (Second week of stims, you know how it is!)

So please do go ahead and insist, there is no reason why you can't have Menopur instead of Merional if that's what you happen to have left over (but please make sure it hasn't expired!!!)

All the best!
