Left arm goes numb if sleeping on my back

Since I've become pregnant, I've noticed that if I sleep on my back (or lie on my back for more than about five minutes without moving), my left arm starts to go numb in a pins and needles way, initially down the side of my little finger. I actually prefer to sleep on my side, but sometimes I change while I'm asleep.

If I start to move my arm/wiggle my fingers, the feeling comes back pretty quickly, although this morning I had to use my other had to wiggle the fingers (feeling still came back) as they were that numb. Hasn't been that numb before. It's only ever my left arm, and only when I'm on my back. I couldn't swear it didn't happen before I was pregnant, but if it did, it was much less common. It isn't happening every night, but maybe 2-3 times a week.

Is this something I should worry about?

Hi Sarah

I don't think so. However I would mention to your Gp/ midwife next time you are seen.

Thanks Kaz. Will speak to the hospital about it at my next appointment.
