Timing of IUI

Hi, I have just got a BFN after my first go at IUI, sniff sniff!
And now I am dissecting it all (and letting my mind run wild as to why it didn't work!).  One thing that bothers me is the timing of my IUI.
I was given gonatrophin to inject at 7pm on Friday night and I then was inseminated Saturday morning at 10.50am. I normally feel pains in my ovaries when about to ovulate and I felt this on Friday morning.
So the insemination seemed to be around 24 hours after ovulation/40 hours after my injection.
I'm not sure if these timings are normal but I keep thinking if I was clearly ovulating on Friday, should I not have had the insemination on Friday?

Hi Sarah,
Sorry to hear your test was negative. ^hugme^
I'm a little confused by a couple of the details in your post
You say the injection was gonadotrophin, was it the HCG?
Also you say you had it 7pm Friday night and then IUI 11:50 Sat am but then said it was 40 hours between injection and IUI ? ?

If I'm assuming correctly then I think you meant you had the HCG injection on Thurs night.
It is possible that what you felt on Friday am wasnt actually ovulation pains. Many women have very similar pains after the HCG injection,  it seems to occur when the folllicles are having their final little growth spurt. I've seen this many times when women have been scanned just prior to doing the IUI because they have been convinced that they've already ovulated, and in fact the follicles are still intact.
Hope this helps,
George

Hi George, sorry oops yes my post was confusing!
I had the injection on Thursday not Friday as you correctly assumed.  I wasn't told what the injection was called exactly but I remember reading gonatrophin on the small bottle.
I detected the surge on Friday morning and also had the pains, so assumed I was going to be ovulating some point on Friday and therefore should have had IUI on Friday as well.
