Now i'm confused....what are tree presents then? Just the presents under the tree??? I thought most people did this?
In my family, we used to wake up to find presents and a stocking on the end of the bed. The stocking contained the usual - an annual/magazine, a satsuma, a walnut, some socks, a couple of other little nicnaks like hairbands, crayons etc. The bulk of our presents were from "Santa" and were on the end of our beds when we woke up. A few were - we knew - from our parents and these were the tree presents. i.e the ones found around the tree. In my family these are traditionally opened after dinner. Dinner, back then, was about 3pm and because we had the "Santa" presents early on this effectively staggered the opening and playing with of presents quite effectively. Since we've all grown up and lost the presents on the end of the bed part we now traditionally open all presents after dinner. However, as a personal decision - and because I always got to my parents for Christmas dinner - we open ours at home first thing, with Ben having a selection from Santa on his bed as I did as a child, and some around the tree. The later, another lot after dinner at his nanny and granddad's. We get a third helping on boxing day when we have a family gathering with DH's side of the family and there's more pressies.

But in answer to the original question: here it's a mix of presents from Santa and from us, usually heavily weighted in favour of Santa (he gets the fun stuff, we get the practical stuff). All presents from relatives/friends come from them and he knows that. I think it's important for him to understand their generousity and that time will come when he will do the same for the children of his generation.

We have a stocking at the end of C's bed with little gifts and orange in etc from santa ( which at 1am this morning he burst into our room saying he had exciting news ! Lol FC had been )
then all other gifts are from Santa although family help buy some to send to him also

Also C knows that adults have to help buy some adult presents as Santa would be too busy with delivering childrens presents!  ;D

In law side of the family presents are kept until afternoon at mil house to open there :)
I know it might be boring for little ones but we all sit round tree after lunch and open all open one by one :) this is one of mine favourite times of the day.

Merry Christmas

I'd never really thought about the whole present issue until this year as C is more aware of what goes on.

This year, we have Xmas eve at my parents and dh dressed up as Santa. He then gave the stocking filler pressies out (all 14 of us have a stocking over the fireplace at mum n dads) All other presents that day where off specific people.

Xmas day, C woke up to a Santa sack at the end of his bed with books n a ben10 figure. E had some more books and a rattle. Their big main presents were from dh and I. We always open everything in one go!! Cue a massive sea of wrapping paper!!

When we were little we got a present from mum and dad - under the tree on xmas morning, presents from aunties and uncles were usually handed out and grandma's house, so we knew who gave us what. Santa's present (bought by mum and dad and generally something special we had asked for in a letter) would be in our room (at the foot of the bed) to find first thing on xmas morning. Santa's gift was something that Santa gave us/made for us/delivered to us. Nobody sent him any gifts to deliver or any money or anything. He was totally magical and if we were good he would read our letter and get us what we asked for :) Oh and we also hung up socks for him to fill....we used to steal daddy's football socks for that as they were the biggest/longest in the house. Oh I suddenly miss being 5 years old!!! :)
